Weekender Bag #5

Yes, I have made 5 of these babies! What can I say? I love a good bag!!

I promised my SIL a bag this last June or July, but I just didn’t get the chance to make ‘til now. And I’m so happy that it worked out this way, for I was able to make this on my new machine and it made a world of difference!

I used a metal teeth zipper instead of a plastic teeth one. I think the brass look of the zipper goes well with the colors of the fabric, which are Indie Chic from My Minds Eye for Riley Blake.

You see those bottom corners? With the other 4 bags, my older previous machine would stutter, skip stiches, and over all hate me for attempting something this thick. But my new baby (see there in the back ground) sew through it all like it was butter! We had a bit of a hassle getting the machine working, but I’m so happy with it now!

I made the piping to match the lining, which picks up the teal in the front pocket print. There has never been a way where I could sew in the lining, on the inside of the zipper, with the machine. So I had to attach it by hand. I hate hand sewing!

But not this time! I was able to sew it on with the machine with no problems at all. Score!

I made a little extra something for her, too. It is a tablet cover. She does have one, but it’s neon orange (so not her style!) and it’s broken in one corner, so I made this one to match her bag. The tutorial, and free PDF download, can be found here.

I am linking up with Finish it up Friday and Can I get a Whoop Whoop, finally!! Each week I try to get something done to link up with everyone else, but it usually doesn’t happen. Yay for this week!! And yay for crossing of another item of my WIP list. That sure feels good!

  1. I LOVE this bag! Those fabrics have been on my wish list for quite some time (They made it in paper first and I have lots of that. lol). I have also been wanting to make a Weekender for a while. This is my first visit to your fabulous blog. Have you blogged any Weekender tips?

  2. What a lovely bag and tablet cover! You sister-in-law will be sew surprised! Thanks for sharing this at the Let’s Bee Social at Sew Fresh Quilts. Hope you will be back next week!
