A mug rug

Have you ever heard of a “mug rug”? I hadn’t either, until a few weeks ago. Even though I have a twin sized quilt and a wall quilt in the making, I decided I wanted to do an easier, faster project.

And so I whipped these up for a friend of mine this weekend. I made them both out of my scraps, which is nice. They certainly didn’t make a dent, but it’s still nice.

and here is the back of the appliqued one. The back of the embroidered one is just plain black.

I had fun doing the applique and the embroidery. I did it free hand and I think the baby carriage turned out really cute!

So what is a mug rug, you ask? In short, it’s this: a little quilt for your drink and some extra room for your snack!

These 2 mug rugs are for a friend of mine who is the owner and editor of StorkNet. I hope she likes them!

*I entered this into the Celebrate Color contest for the month of October, under the “home décor” and “needlepoint” categories. If you haven’t seen who won for September, go and see the beautiful things here! *
